Running joke, mate. We picked on it a few weeks back.
I would have said Grimsby, but Grimsby and I have come to an agreement--- I won't badmouth it, and it won't make me live there.

You forgot Darwin and football....
....and I think that's enough of 'Thatcher' references for today!

Amen to that, brother. And England has provided the world with examples of civilised behaviour---whether it be afternoon tea, or a couple of pints at the Dog And Duck before going home to a Sunday roast and Yorkshire pudding.

Darwin, J. B. Priestly, Nelson, Drake, Wordsworth, and any of thousands more. England has done too much for the world to allow it, and all it stands for, to be hijacked by racist thugs with an all-white agenda and those evoking an England that never was.
Be proud.

I think it goes right back to the Normans. Remember the aristocracy still all spoke French & Latin right up to the 1500's, the the vulgar classes speaking and living the English life.
Maybe this is still relevant today to some degree. You're more likely to take 3 or 4 trips to the South of France if you're rich, then if you're working class, and much more likely to be a BNP supporter if you're working class than if you're middle class.
Basically the English lower classes have been ordered around, and rebuffed by foreign speaking higher classes for so long that the general scorn for anything foreign is hard to eradicate.
