I've always viewed films, even those that try to be historically accurate,as nothing more than fantasy/fiction

Books to screenplays are notorious for this

Schindlers list the book was more or less non-fiction but won a fiction prize

No doubt the screenplay would have been different but then thats films

Not a very good medium for portraying historical events accurately

I agree, you just can't tell any story accurately under 2 hours; you can't beat books.

What the yanks never seem to say about that particular war was that it was europeans fighting other europeans. Not some brave bunch of Americans. Lets face it America has a very strange way of looking at the wars they have participated in, and Mel Gibson has become a rather strange fellow over the past few years.

His argument is not a bad one and neither is it a good one, but his single minded ignorance of your opinion is a fundamentalist trait. Now a fundamentalist is somebody who cannot change his view. He has a belief system that will not alter, regardless of whatever anyone else says. There it is black and white and no shades of grey.

If you lay out your reasoning and explain why you thinks what you think and invite others to debate with you - that is not fundamentalism. That is having an open mind, open to reason and thought.
