hydrogen isn't rare on earth, think of organic chemistry and water!

helium is created by radioactive decay as I already said, it finds its way in gas deposits as it seeps through the crust. It doesn't combine with the gas its just a homogenous mix, that's why it can be separated

Sorry I meant free Hydrogen that would have been one of the most abundant atmospheric gasses on early Earth, not the hydrogen bound up in H20.
