Well, when you consider how polluted the Nile is, & they drink/bath/cook with that all the time.

There are some Cosmetic Surgery Ideaologies going around that think if you drink your own urine, as well as use it as a face scrub, it helps purify the body from excess fat/oils.

Keith, now come on lad.......

Holland doesn't have the same weather as the UK & Ireland. For a start, the UK & Ire are right at the end of the Gulf stream. The pro's being milder winters, the cons being wetter weather. East Anglia, London, Essex & Kent could be similar to Holland, but Ireland, Wales, the Lake District and Scotland is different.

Manchester takes on average 70mm more rain per month, than Amsterdam. It's not much, but Dutch rainfall varies little between summer & winter, while because of the warm air currents the gulf stream brings, the UK & Ire can be more unpredictable.

The biggest difference though is actually towns and cities surrounded by hills/mountains. Because most towns and cities are built around rivers, surrounding hills and mountains channel the water down valleys into the rivers, which overflow. With Holland being flatter, there's more chance the water stays put and gets absorbed by the land, than channelled into fast flowing rivers.

This is why, though Sheffield and Manchester aren't that far apart, and though both cities are way above sea level, with a similar climate, Manchester is built on a plain (or plateau to be more accurate) while Sheffield is surrounded by hills). It wasn't just the rain Sheffield copped that caused the floods, but the rain within the moors and Peak district which was all channelled down the mountain slopes, into valleys, which congregated in the main river -The River Don- which flows through Sheffield. Thus: Sheffield gets flooded, Manchester doesn't.

Most of the flooding in Sheffield wasn't due to building built on flood planes (though further east this was the case).

Again, this it true in Los Angeles, which hardly gets any rain, but when there is rain in and around the city you get bad floods. Last time I was there, we got floods and fires within 12 weeks. Ventura county has the San Gabriela Mountains to the north, and the Santa Monica Mountains to the south. All the water flows into the San Fernando Valley (porn valley to you), with Chatsworth, Canoga Park, down to Van Nuys getting it bad. It was when all the landslides in Calabasas, Resada, Studio City and Malibu was happening.

It's a weird city.

You can syphon sea water up your anus into the colon and large intestine to drink. The villi will act as a filter, where the sodium will not pass into the bloodstream.
(no such country as Holland, according to my Geography teaching colleagues - I believe it is merely a large region,
I know, I know. Holland was the biggest region in the northern territories that gained independence from Spanish rule. Mainly due to the population being more protestant, while the southern territories were mainly catholic and stuck with the Spanish. When Spain left, the southern catholic territories became Belgium. I was just being lazy Wazza.

I agree about the 'Netherlands' providing more money and recourses in flood defence because it's pretty much essential for them. Again, my points run alongside the point I missed out, rather than in opposition. !happy!

I don't know why they told us that in Biology. Still, it may come in handy on 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' one day.
