Question is how do you tell the difference between someone researching
and someone getting off on it?

Far too any are using this as a defence IMHO

Actually, I'd say YOU DO have to watch someone being murdered, or raped, to fully appreciate it (that's 'appreciate the horror, cruelty, malice, or evil').

The problem with paedophilia is that the 'watching' bit is part of the enjoyment, more than other crimes, and because it involves innocent children, is so emotive that it will easily make people irrational and defensive - always a tricky subject to cover.

It is, perhaps, interesting to note that the legal age of consent in Italy is fourteen.
