We all know what would have happened if Griffin had reacted - the piggies would have waded straight in and arrested him, on the orders of their "neutral" paymasters & chiefs. It would have been a massive story "Look, fascist pig is a violent thug", and he would have had the book thrown at him.
What we should really take from this: Is it either right or wrong to egg/physically attack a democratically elected politician? It either is or it isn't.

Cast aside for now your entrenched political beliefs, and realise that this effectively means a group seen by all of us as undermining the democratic process are effectively supported/bankrolled by the ruling government.
Not one of them has spoken out against the "protest"/attack, so I presume that they now approve of this method of "protest" against the democratically elected MPs/MEPs. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, surely?
