Alice,
We all know what the law says but the law is wrong because the hypothetical girl has consented even though the law says that she can't.
A fourteen year old girl should be allowed to have sex or is she to masturbate because she feels sexual desire?

Where the depiction of images is concerned the English law misuses the English language with the phrase "for the purpose of the law a child is any person under the age of eighteen" which is nonsense because the age of consent is sixteen in England so how can a girl of 17 be a child? This Double speak as Orwell warned us in his masterpiece 1984.

The purpose of the law is to deceive the public so that they can say in the media that a filmmaker or photographer has depicted "a child" when plainly they have not and the girl is above the age of consent.

I am talking about any imagery that depicts women being abused not SM which many find enjoyable.

Whether my films are erotic is for the viewer to decide even though I think that they are!

If an actress is eighteen then she should be allowed to dress in a school uniform and to cater to the sexual fantasies of the "dirty old man" because this is a scenario that is played out in thousands of bedrooms across the land and is connected to the the fact that many people's first sexual experiences happened when they were at school. No actual school children are involved in the production of such fantasy films and it should not be the concern of the law.
The state should stay out of our bedrooms!

Forty and fifty year old men do attract and have sex with girls of sixteen and above quite legally and why should not they not?

Alice,
What I am saying is that if anything is on the net then any adult should have the right to look at it. That is clear and unequivocal is it not? Why should an adult be treated as a child and be told by other adults who have looked at such images that they should not?

If I as a writer who wishes to write about such images on the web then how am I supposed to write about subject matter that I have not seen?

The police should concentrate all their energies into "taking out" the producers of such imagery and not persecute those who download what is already there because all such energy could be used to hunt down the producers and this should be a priority.

I wonder if you have heard of the two public schoolboys who set up on an
abandoned oil rig out of territorial waters and have become millionaires selling child porn?

Deuce,
Anyone has a right to research and this is what the Home Office are trying to do, to discourage research and too many genuine academics have been scared off.

Warren,
I did not say that you did!
What I am saying is that people accept artificial devices like BBC and BBFC,for example, as being all powerful and abstract when in fact they are just individuals.

Sam,
Yes but what is the depiction of paedophilia? is it "for the purposes of the law any person under the age of 18 shall be termed a child"? if depicted in a film, photograph or any other image.
