Re: forgotten 70s bands
Be Bop Delux - Bill Nelson went on to form yet another forgotten band "Bill Nelson's Red Noise" - but he jumped the punk era and played 80s/90s stuff in the seventies! - really capable and inventive musician along with his team.. OK I'm a sad git.

Re: forgotten 70s bands
Not sure if they count as forgetten, but what about NEKTAR? A great prog-rock band.
I've got all their albums and a quick search on Google shows they are still going strong now with tour dates announced and re-issues of all the old stuff.
My favourite track was "Desolation Valley" from the album "A Tab in the Ocean"

Yes and no!!! They were formed in Hamburg in about 1968/69 by a bunch of ex-pats. Roye Albrighton (guitar & vocals), Derek Moore (bass), Allan Freeman (keyboards & vocals) and Ron Howden (drums). Their record label, Bellaphon, is a German label.
Lots of British musicians have found fame abroad but never really made it here. One of the best "little known" bands I booked at university were Fischer Z (similar to Talking Heads); again a mainly British line-up hardly known in the UK but had many hits in Germany. John Watts who formed the band with Steve Skolnik, had previously played with Alex Harvey, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart and David Bowie. When I booked them Word Salad had been released about a year and it was the time Going Deaf for a Living was just about coming out.
