Well obviously Mr Manning could not ever hope to have competed
nowadays - no way was Bernard a lanky beardy hairy twat just
talking about his ballbags and dicksacks, how many drugs he had
taken or number of birds he had shagged.

That's a real modern comdey genius for you

He was a fine comedian with excellent comic timing. Was he racist?probably, but he was a product of his time and circumstances. There are far more people who could be described as racist by another person than would like to admit it or even recognise it! in the end it's all a matter of perspective.

Good old alexi..do you rpine for the good old days when he billed himself as a marxist comedian and was in the vanguard of the alternative comedy movement with comedic talent such as dawn french, rik mayall , ben elton etc.. saying how unfunny old school comedians were and "fighting" against the evil capitalists through their informed humour. now all doing voice overs in adverts and droning on about starving african states.

Funny how their lofty ideas went out the window when the chequebook appeared and yet Bernard seems to have carried on helping and living in his local community.

Alexi Sayle, Dawn french, Rik mayall, Ben Elton, Lenny Henry, are not in the same league as Manning was, same as Monkhouse, they had that rare talent- timing and originality, they were of a generation where people didn,t take offence, because nobody told them they had to, so R.I.P real humour.
