I've been sent this virus 15 times in the last 3 days, they seem to have changed their address now to

rockman77@mediaone.net

and the file is called hotspots.zip.lnk

is there any way these bastards can be traced, I'd like to stick the virus up their ass and open it up

BOB

this might help

http://spam.abuse.net/spam/howtocomplain.html
but if they have a fake header, stripped out address packets, then it could be more difficult.

A program called nettrace pro can help some times.

www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois can get some info for the domain (but garbage in - garbage out)

If it's the SircCam Worm (with the e-mail starting 'Hi There') then it's not necessarily the person's fault:

You'll also find details on how to get rid of it if you've been infected.

Here, here...
Allow me to shed some life on this virus... Here's what happens... The virus infects a computer... it then chooses a real file, from the infected pc, to send to you... the extension of the file will be 2 fold... ie: (as for example, should it be a word file)
The attachment would NORMALLY be called... " letter.doc "
However, when its sent by the virus in an infected computer, it will be " letter.DOC.bak ", or " letter.DOC.pif " or "letter.DOC.bak "... etc, etc, etc...
The person whom it appears to be from, does have your address, (4 whatever reason) in their address book...
HOWEVER... they are NOT aware that it is being sent to you... They are merely a victim of the virus itself...
Hope this clears things up...

Bill

(Ps.. 4 what its worth... I have had well over 100+ copies of this thing arrive in my inbox, so far...)
