Questions about porn

Hi everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster. :-)

I'm going back to uni this autumn as a mature student (recently 27), and I don't want to rack up too much debt, so I will have to get a part time job. I don't fancy working in McDonalds or in a bar so I thought about part time porn.

I'm wondering:

How much could I reasonably expect to earn and in what roles? I'm nifty with a camera, can edit and mix audio, and am happy to perform.
How would I be employed? (agency/freelance?)
What kind of photos would I need to send off to people looking for performers?

Basically that sort of thing.

Thanks for your time,

AM

Alex is an ambiguous name, are you male or female?

Not that I have any idea what you may earn, but i am sure your sex would make a big difference to your potential earnings.

Become a male stripper, it will fit round uni better then porn will, and as a part time job, you can earn more stipping as a male then you will in porn.

i have around 30 emails a week from males wishi to become porn studs, many of which will work for free.

Few males make enough money to work full time in the Industry and so require work from other areas, stripping, escorting, etc building trade,etc...

Yeh but the whole point is they will work for free to start out to get a good reputation before turning "pro"....and considering the number of guys able to do the job I think you're being misleading to anyone wanting to try it...tsk even I know this from OUTSIDE the industry.

Marino, will my gargantuan weight or ginger pubic hair hinder my progress as sexy man stripper?

Hi,

To be a male porn stud is an ultimate fantasy for many men but very few can deal with the reality that lies behind the fantasy.

For any producer to hire untried male talent is a huge risk.

Offering to work for free is pretty much irrelevant as the cost of male talent only makes up a small part of the cost of a shoot.
Should a producer decide to cast untried male talent, they run the risk of losing serious cash.
This is because if the the guy cannot get it up, nothing goes in the can and the shoot is cancelled but all of the remaining talent, crew and location still have to be paid.
With porn budgets being what they are, that is not a good thing, which leads to very few producers being willing to take the risk of giving someone a break.

In porn, reputation is everything and this can only come from proven experience.
This may seem like a catch22 but the way in is to build a portfolio. Start by offering your services to girls with amateur/personal web sites that regularly need to shoot new photosets and ask for a few photos in return. From there, use the photos to move on to amateur video and this will eventually lead to pro porn and the opportunity to be paid for your performance.

Professional male pros that can deliver without fail are always be in short supply and is why the same faces seem to appear again and again. If you can make it to being recognised as a pro, there will always be work around for you but the downside is that, in the UK, it will never be enough that you can make a living from it.
All of the familiar male faces you see on video are there, not because of the financial returns, but because they love being in porn and having the status that comes with it.

And I have not forgotten about backstage!!

In porn, the only skill that is a valued commodity is camera, but, once again, work only comes by reputation.

Just to make it worse, having experience as a mainstream cameraman means jack squat in the world of porn due to the radical difference in shooting style. In almost every instance, mainstream cameramen deliver dull and detached footage, not matter how great their framing or smoothness in pans and zooms.

The only way to prove your eye for porn and your worth backstage is to dig deep in your pocket and finance your own productions.

In hindsight, I could have saved myself all of this writing but just repeating a comment once made to me by a major US producer:
"Those that truly want to be in porn are already in it. Those that have to ask how do not want it bad enough to be there".

I tell it as I see it.

I got a mail froma company last week, saying they ahd been making programs for channel 5, 4 Bravo etc and could not make ends meets so, they had no option but to produce porn to make money, it was a step down the ladder but they need to make a few hundred grand to fund a new movie project,,,,,,I wished them good luck.
