Earlier this morning Ofcom announced their long awaited consultation over broadcasting standards. The question of whether R18 content should be permitted has been left open for public debate.

Good its about time we got some R18 on a subscription, I haven't understood the point of not broadcasting R18 over an encrypted channel !

I don't know what its about. Its not as if you can't get hold of hardcore porn dead easy nowadays anyway ! Its true to say most of the vidshops who have liscences may be a bit disgruntled and they could be doing as much as anyone else to stop it gettin broadcasted and who would blame them ?!

I'll 50% agree with you OD that its Politics but only because at Politicians school the first rule is to get elected, second get rule re-elected
Never under estimate the Power of Lobby Groups...religion might be a power of the past but lets not delude ourselves that it was only 30/40 years ago that the seeds were planted
Religion might be in the background compared to centuries past but to say it is insignificant compared to politics would be fatal
They know full well that if Mail order porn and explicit Satellite TV encrypted porn is allowed open rein then the fight is lost forever
cheers

I agree with Deuce, whether religion is behind the whole porn on TV question I am not sure but I am sure that religion is still the most powerful force on the planet. How many wars can we truly say had nothing to do with religious beliefs?

Unfortunately the recommendation from Ofcom is for the status quo ( ie no R18 at all) unless we can change their minds. Get writing!

Quite a lot I would imagine. However, we could certainly say that religion was invoked to justify them.

Of course, it's a political hot potato. It's not about whether is right or wrong. They just don't want to deal with any resulting grief from The Daily Mail, The Church, and nutty New Labour 'wimmin's? groups. Best leave it to others to stick their heads above the parapet.
