I mentioned this a while back Yahoo groups are under investigation by The score group and other American based web companies. It may well be worth the time for everyone who runs or owns websites over here to have a look at them. Loads of stolen material in those groups. Yahoo will act if someone points it out to them

If someone downloads something from a FREE promotional page, like the ones listed here all the time, then puts them on a Yahoo group, is that piracy?
Most, if not all of these pics are less than full-size, have the name of the website they are promoting on them, and were offered for free anyway?
Any thoughts?

Offered for free maybe but how does the saying go..
Not for reproduction without consent....... etc
Just because they are free to save to disk from the website doesnt mean they want people to put them in Yahoo groups. I am sure some don't mind but most of the groups in question the photos and videos are NOT from the free trial pages.

I've visited a few Yahoo groups and not seen much of the high res stuff you have to pay for from sites, only the smaller sized, free stuff.
I get what you say about "Not for reproduction" but these pics and videos are basically viral marketing? People pass them around and then (hopefully) visit the website they are promoting.
I'm not defending piracy, it picks the pockets of the people working to produce and distribute stuff for a living, but as long as it's JUST the promotional bits and pieces, it's promoting a site, not damaging it.
That's why some sites and performers have their own Yahoo groups, it's another way of giving potential punters a free taste, free for the producer/performer as well as the public.
It might be better to have Yahoo remove offending files, rather than shut down whole groups.

Steve the images in Yahoo groups aren't cut down because they are free pics from websites to tempt people. Yahoo cut them down because of the limit of space each Yahoo group is allowed. The official Yahoo groups I run for Dani, Kat and Lucy Zara Stenson all have smaller cut down images, not my doing Yahoo does it automatically.
I suppose Yahoo could just ask for the removal of the pics in question but they make it very clear when someone starts a group that copyright infringements will result in the closure of the group. You see the message about 10 times while starting one. People can't say they weren't warned, besides what Yahoo do is nothing to what Scoregroup.com could do. They take it very seriously

As I said, I don't support piracy.
And since I don't know Yahoo's technology/procedure I wont argue any of that.
If closing groups IS the best way to deal with image theft then it should be done.
I wish everyone here good fortune in return for their work.

They are cut down in the Photo section but not in the Files.
I wish more people posted pics into the latter for that reason.
