Is it just me or when you get a video that has been dubbed into a different language does it really put you off? I have a Sarah Young video and the scenes are amazing but I have to watch it with the sound off or I start laughing at:

a) The German ladies voice that they have sounds like a crout version of Pat from Eastenders.
b) The ummms and ahhhs are so not in sync with the action.
c) I am sure in one part she says "Vers Sprun Duck Technique" or whatever that slogan was from the advert.

Please tell me that it is not just me who is Mr. Anti-dubbing

A sound engineer friend of mine once dubbed a Dick Nasty/Georgette Neale sequence from British Anal Babes with the voices of Lady Penelope and Parker from the Thunderbirds series. Can you imagine Parker giving Lady Penelope one in the butt in his adenoidal voice? That was the most hysterical thing that I have ever seen or heard.

Flett do you have a copy of that video? that sounds hilarious. I could put it into mpegs and shove it up on the net for everyone to watch...hmm Lady Penelope..nice!!

I prefer original sound, even if it's in a foreign (to me) language. The out-of-sync ummms and ahhhs more than negate any "understandable" dialogue. You may find it funny, but I find it absolutely infuriating. Another peeve is that surreal echo-reverb sometimes used in the older German flicks.

its a shame that the likes of magma who produce great films have to ruin them by dubbing them. is there such a thing as these films with the natural sound?

A lot of the time it's to hide the fact they're being shouted at by a manic director as they perform. So, probably, even in their home country's they're dubbed. Like Chinese Kung Fu films. Only more squelching.

I wrote an article/list on my pet peeves in porn for a fanzine. Anyone want me to post it? I got to around 20 things, dubbing was number 1, I think!

I have quite a few of my own.

Dubbing is an abomination that spoils not only porn but mainstream cinema in Germany. Most Hollywood films are dubbed, with the result that they all sound the same, or even worse - like a bad eighties porn film. There are a couple of voice-over actors like the guy who does De Niro who put their heart into it but the vast majority are awful.

Proof of the power of original sound: Nadia Nyce's talking dirty in a strong Manchester accent just before she gets splatted by Rodney Moore...imagine that dubbed. No thank you.
