your right it is rodgering the industry. I was recently told that 66% of the porn consumed in the uk is pirated! simply if this is true it is costing everyone from the models through the producers to the shops and finally the consumer money. if my shops sold 66% more then my fixed costs would not increase so i could pass the savings on to the customer. stack it high and sell it cheap

I used to distribute R18 videos, and was very concerned about the problem of piracy, so I called F.AC.T., the Federation Against Copyright Theft.

They don't 'deal' with adult products, and are basically just a private group funded by the major studios UK distribution arms. I don't think they have any legal search and seize remit per se, but simply inform Trading Standards and assist in building and pursuing cases against pirates.

So there's nothing stopping the UK adult industry setting up something similar...if it can get its collective finger out of its collective arsehole, of course.

A hotline could be set up, and it could be taken from there...I'd love to see what Trading Standards would do about the problem. I mean, just look at Westminster council for example...sure, they might charge exorbitant rates for a licence for your sex shop, but by gosh, I'm sure adult retailers are only too happy to pay it given the sterling job that Westminster T/S does of keeping adult video pirates out of the area....why, I doubt there's a single pirate video seller in the whole of Soho, and if there was, they'd probably just be selling them out of a suitcase...I mean, no council would put up with a property being used to blatantly sell pirate videos, would they? Surely they'd want to help protect the revenues of law-abiding, licenced sex shop owners right?

Some hope...!

I spent six months trying to get Essex trading standards to pursue a pirate who was opererating throughout the county. finally I aproached my MP who took up the case on my behalf. After cc's of numerous letters he wrote to trading standards he became frustrated and wrote to David Blunket (over here Mr Blunket) still trading standards refused to act. The last I heard was a questionaire from t/s wanting to know how I rated thier performance. It's been a couple of months and I still cant bring myself to fill it in

Funny how the first porn film many people see when in their early teens is a pirate film? ok , not all for some, but i clearly remember a peter north film hidden by my parents behind the telly! With todays ever advancing media it is so easy to pirate stuff quick , and make a few bob fast , I remember buying a supposed porn film called tailgunners??? it had a hardcore cover and a 18 certificate?? ...what a mug i was back then :) Not a cock in or fanny, in sight! i tried to get the money back of course SORRY NO REFUND. may be going of topic, but
This is what gets me, as i found out the shop where i got this film from claimed to be selling hardcore but of course they werent! they only used the fact that they were situated right next to a proper private shop? bastards! what gets me also is that they carried on tradeing for so long! ..man! the local nick was only round the corner! pure cheek! the balls a person has to display stacked shelves of bootleg
material , must be huge! and should be in the industry themselves:) i felt overwhelmed even at a record and cd fair as they had NOTHING BUT bootleg material ... i came out the fair after, thinking how the
fuck they get away with that ????????the readys in that sellers wallet!!!

I have watched pirated films in the past , but you do eventually long for sarah louise young in full colour.
I support proper releases ,The R18 shop is brill , as the prices look great!
Also if somone has finished watching a film and they wanna trade or sell on and its the original then thats fine by me.

I think one point being missed here is the amount of piracy being committed thanks to P2P (and not just in the adult indiustry but also the mainstream film industry and certainly the music business) - while pirate DVDs/tapes are a problem the whole problem of file sharing is much more damaging, more wide reaching and prevalent and almost impossible to combat!

The main reason I have never been a big user of P2P is that the few times I have tried to download movies or games (600Mb plus) they have either failed to download (but after 10 hours typically) or when u get them down they are not what they claim to be so I gave up on it - I have to be honest and say that the whole piracy thing and the damage that I was doing to the relevant industries didnt really cross my mind at the time

I had a serious problem with people pirating our films so i put my phone number on the bottom of the screen as it was impossible to beat them, it also works in our favour as the more they sell the more calls for films we get.
Getting a R18 cert didn't make any difference as in the first month of sales someone approached a friend of ours with a 1000 copies of our new film & all i was told you expect it in this industry. What they should have on this forum is a section that names these people as its obvious they have local goverment in their pockets.
