Rant & Rave

They know who this is aimed at?.
The horny old chestnut Video Pirates has reared its ugly head again. Another bright spark selling our titles, eliciting complaints from those who have been daft enough to buy them. Our films are cheap, if you want to see something what?s wrong with paying the asking price, I take it you still want to go on seeing new titles appear?
What do I call a video pirate? Well, how about someone who sells something he has no rights to sell, the other word for these people is thief! They are steeling the livelihood of all those who invest their time and money in making the product, and no we?re not all rich.
That they are allowed to advertise and get customers and keep their customers informed of the latest stolen goods also needs to be addressed. If this forum is going to continue to be taken seriously then it should make a rule. No promotion of product except from the producer or licence holder. We take the trouble to send you films to review, stills and no doubt anything else which may be requested. We do not influence the way you make your reviews, we can take the rough with the smooth. We do not expect that in return people will be able to advertise that same product at a price we can?t make a profit on, and then go on to justify there actions. This should apply not only to the little idiot doing it from his home, yes we do know where and we will send an invoice, but alsothe large companies who also make a practice of this form of theft. The buying of the video does not entitle anyone to reproduce it and sell it. I see many high ideals pontificated here, try an ideal that says I will not buy stolen goods. I am not referring here to the swapping of videos, that?s fair enough, but to actively promote the illegal marketing of someone else?s product should stop.
We have the expected outbursts from people like Rimbaud ( who he)? No e-mail address, the best type of trading is not selling stolen material but buying it from licensed suppliers. To try and justify anything else is an abuse of people?s credibility. The reference to Your Choice is laughable. They are not in any position to complain, till a few years ago they were themselves among the major video pirates operating into the UK, that they cleaned up their act and have gone from strength to strength is to be applauded, but they are not producers who operate on very small margins. For information Strand pays its taxes in the country of registration and if the runt, good name, has not heard of us then that may be our good fortune. And to Rimbaud? Another no name, we are not making threats of violence, we make the promise that if our product is pirated we will take legal action. We leave the violent language for others who seem to think that as purchasers of stolen property they hold the moral high ground.
If anyone has a reasonable, logical argument why they feel justified in buying pirate videos I would love to hear it. These will probably be the same people who would complain if they had some of their week?s wages or dole money stolen.
We make a good product, we sell at a fair price, we give good service, we don?t rip people off. Why should some little nurd take advantage of us. Don?t help these people, buy from Marcus Allan, Phill Mc, Ben Dover, Strand, we make the product that keeps you wa**ing.

Are the anti-piracy applications,like macrovision,uneffective ?
I thought they scrambled the picture if copied.

I think commercial selling of other people's hard work is bang out of order. However, ordinary fans selling on second-hand tapes and getting a little cash for it is a different matter. And you should make the distinction clearly. Fan trading is good for the industry.

Unfortunately it is often virtually impossible to distinguish between those who are offering to swap or sell second-hand and those who are offering to copy tapes. Where the latter is obvious we do delete posts, though we should probably be more reluctant to give the benefit of the doubt to the poster.

You have a fair point Remington. For the record I can honestly say I have never bought or sold pirate tapes apart from accidentally by placing an order with Your Scene. If I had known they were pirates I would not have bothered - the quality was rubbish. The reason I made the post was because I thought that what Strand were complaining about was fans swapping copies. Even though I had not heard of Strand I am certainly well aware of your work over the years ( particularly the stuff you did with Private and KT`s Hometown)and you obviously have been in the industry longer than most so I apologise for implying that Strand were nobodys as I have always liked your work.

I think the benefit of the doubt should readily be given, most people on here are fans. Responsible fans will probably report pirate traders anyway, since the fan in the street wants Ben Dover et al to be succesful and produce more of the same.
