If we all joined forces we could make a difference but half the people couldnt be arsed...Maybe if someone rallied round it might make a difference.

R18s became legal in the UK because of the EU and there is talk that adult TV stations will at sometime in the future be allowed to broadcast hardcore porn to bring us in line with the rest of europe, we wait and see but surely the adult broadcasters should make themselves heard more and lobby the goverment after all its in their finacial interest to show hardcore rather than the soft shite they are broadcasting at the moment.

They have the right to do what they do because of the wording of Article 10 ... the protection of morals ... countries are free to detcide what this means within their own borders and the Court usually backs them. Satellite TV, that cross national boundries is only subject to the laws of the originating country.

ARTICLE 10
Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. this right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. This article shall not prevent States from requiring the licensing of broadcasting, television or cinema enterprises.

The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or the rights of others, for preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence, or for maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary.

.... and the other reason is that too many people accept the rules, allowing them to crack down on the few that don't. Mass flouting of the rules would make it impossible for them to enforce ... that's how porn established itself in most other European countries. Most British people seem content with what they're allowed and don't like to push the boat.

As an example of how the legal system is run on a con ... the courts can only deal with about 12% of motorists contesting fines, anything above that and the system can't cope. So if anyone could organise a mass refusal to pay tickets, the system would fail.

If anyone wants a laugh (and this is a bit O/T but quite apt for this thread!) have a look at the front page of the Melon Farmers:

It may be funny but what if.....

Gonna take a lot of time and money. Primetime and DS have been fighting the fight for over a year now and Primetime have given up because it cost them ?100K and they lost. It needs somone with DS's money to change our governments (a succession of twat after twat) view. The funny thing is though that if/when we could get it to the European Court of Law, they'll laugh at us and say sure, OK, no problemo. The problem is here at home first.

Porn is one of those embarrassing subjects that politicians don't really deem an issue unless they want something to use as a scapegoat for the breakdown in the social fabric of society speeches they like to use every so often.

The government knows it exists and allows it to, to some extent because they realise that kept in its place it is rather harmless and a necesary evil to the well being of society to "crack one off the wrist" as it were.

The very back bone of our governments on the subject of the availability of porn could be summed up in one sentence: "Not in our back yard". There in lies your answer to why nothing will be done unless some radical revolutionary sits outside parliament and really grabs headlines by setting themselves on fire knee deep in porn paraphernalia...but because no one really feels that strongly about it, things will continue the way they are.

As for hardcore on British cable...C'mon. I was the only one that said it last time and I was right because people still just don't understand the country that we live in and why we choose to be behind the rest of the world on this issue.

Mark my words now...You will not see hardcore on TVX or the Adult Channel for the next 3-5 years...and if it happens, then there is truly change happening. I've heard so many people say it like they really hold out hope its going to change. I for one can't wait to be proved wrong...

Anyone for burning themselves outside the houses of parliament?
