From various documentaries, articles, etc, it seems that filming a scene for a porn movie usually takes several hours, if not a whole afternoon, evening, or whatever.

Since the finished product is seldom more than half-an-hour of viewing time, why does the filming take so long?

And is the extra time mainly 'action' (in which case everyone must get very sore!), or is it spent in rearranging lights, taking comfort breaks, etc?

There's no deep motive behind this question. I'm just interested in the process of film-making. I can understand why mainstream film-making is a lengthy process, but porn films seem (on the face of it) so much simpler.

Most of the time it is beacuase the shoots are so badly organised or because models are so damned unreliable!
Example 1: 2 girl shoot, girl doesn't turn up, location in the middle of nowhere, spend most of the day for replacement to arrive.
Example 2: 2 girl shoot, both models asked to arrive at 10am, make up ready, model turns up pissed with bottle of wine in hand without make up done and then spends 2 hours doing it, once again waiting.
Example 3: (the one that annoys me most), Photographer/Director thinks that model is too dumb to read a road map so decides that they should meet at station as opposed to location, meet at 9am, as you have no idea who you are looking for waste time looking, find photographer who then says he hasn't sot any cash/checques to pay you so go to bank and wait again, finally get to location (at around 10:30/11am) only to find that it is off a main road and actually would have been easier to find than the station.
Example 4: Working with a model that cannot remember lines (the sex scenes are done very quickly) so spend most of the day going over something very simple and getting very frustrated.

Trust me I can think of so many more but I think this sums it up!!!

Chantas post reminds me of something I always found amusing yet strangely irritating.

When Ben Dover meets a model at the station (as he does in many scenes) and they have supposedly never met before i.e model says "You must be Ben". How come said model then walks straight across the carpark to Bens car without him telling her which car is his. This shows the viewer that the scene is scripted and pre-planned. So why keep up the pretence of it being real documentary footage.

Hehehehehe. I used to like it when Ben had the Mk1 3-series. He looks like a driver of a battered BMW, somehow. You could believe that the girl might just have made the connection.

Good point, although perhaps the video camera might have been a giveaway!

The car was empty. Uncle Benjamin and camera were 30 feet behind the girl as she strolled over and got in the car.

I know for a fact that Lindsey does a walk through rehersal on *every* scene in his films. If the dialogue doesn't go well, he gets the right arse! Don't believe in any of the spontinaeity you see in his flicks - it's all pre-planned.
