OK, I just saw a response to a thread that listed someone's "real" name instead of their "porn alias," I'll omit the details. How often does this type of crap erupt in the UK? Recently in the U.S., a huge issue has erupted with revealing performer names and other data. Red Light District (distributor of the Paris Hilton home sex tape) seems to have allowed driver 's licenses, passport copies, credit card numbers, and other personal data onto the internet via either a very angry employee or an very good internet hacker. I find this kind of junk reprehensible. DanG, you know where I stand on this.

Luke Ford seems to have taken up this odd mantra that any news is good news, and he has no compunction about once again publishing names and other demographic information about current and former stars. I'm acutely interested in a UK response to this, because your sphere is smaller, and therefore a leak of sensitive information could be even more crippling to someone.

Although in bad taste....

I can't comment on the UK.

In 99.9% of the model releases there is no clause saying a certain name must or must not be used.

I've known the man for several years and I know him very well.
All news is news if it is put into context. He will publish as it relates to the story.

Willie, it's a much smaller industry over here, so everyone pretty much knows everyone etc.

The RLD example is a bad one because I believe it's an inside job, but if anyone over here were to be found playing fast and loose with performers' details, they would be blacklisted in a shot, and given the limited size of our industry compared to LA, word travels a lot quicker.

Of course, our laws on personal info are a little different to the US too, hence the confusion about how to comply with 2257 whilst respecting (and remaining within) our own domestic laws on privacy as well.

In a nutshell...

Porn is about Offensiveness!
Porn is about Shock!
Porn is about Controversy!
Porn is about Free speech!
Porn is about Money!

It is about taking something that isn't culturally or socially acceptable and making it public as a means to exercise your right to say what you want and make a profit from it.

The moment Porn becomes socially acceptable it stops being porn.

Give it another 10 to 20 years and you will start to see such titles with names like "Jack the Arsehole Ripper" or "The Gapes of London Tower" or perhaps "London Bridge Donkey Punch!"

First and foremost it's about money. I don't think many people go into it with a subversive agenda ... I may be wrong. There is more than one way to skin a cat however, and you can be all of those things (you can tick off that checklist) without resorting to the 'donkey punch'. All it takes is a little imagination.

Of course it always about money and Freedom of Speech/expression.
And no one says you have to apply each and every single element of the above to each film.

But on that note, you do require a large enough puritan element of a society in order for this product to have any financial value or merrit.

If it becomes completely socially acceptable, then that crucial piece of the puzzle disappears. And without that, porn is just a really bad video no one wants to spend money on.

I watched the BANNED in the UK thing on channel 4 and they went into Snuff and stuff like that, and its classed as porn here too, shock films, and exections and stuff all get classed as pornography.

Its changed from Sexual Nature to include Snuff, Murder Films, and all that stuff now.
