..just had a look for cathy barry's new diaries #9 dvd..it's so frustrating,there's so much stuff that i'd like to buy but when you're looking at paying ?50-?70 for 3 dvd's you think twice and just don't bother...I bought 4 taylor wane dvd's from an american site the other day for ?15 and that was including p+p (and they were delivered within 5 days)...ok,I can kind of understand the uk being more expensive (cos it's the uk-we get ripped off for everything it seems)..but wouldn't it be to everyone's advantage if we were at least offered some sort of discount on buying 2 or more?..or buy 3 get one free??

I totally agree with you.

Thats why i dont buy any dvd's from this country, i cant afford it.

The sooner the distributors realise that they are pricing themselves out of the market and reach of the 'ordinary' folks in Britain, the better.

Then perhaps they will see a return on their products.

How is it i can buy a dvd (lets say a bendover dvd) cheaper from the usa, than here in my home land?

Alice is right in that the dollar is very weak but there's more competition in the States which has kept the prices of Dvd's honest.

Several companies targeting the UK have had a virtual monoply partly due to the UK's porn mail order laws and that lack of competition has kept Dvd's at mostly ?20.

I think we do have to be fair to the producers who have to cover their production costs and make a bit of a profit too.

The retailer too will want their cut to contribute towards their overheads and again make a profit. There have been many threads where producers have (rightly) bemoaned the small amount of the actual retail price they get.

Added to all of this is that the shops (certainly the Soho ones I go to) are nowhere near as busy as they once were given the huge amount of all types of porn available on the web.

Given all this, I don't think ?20 is unreasonable for a new UK produced DVD. Most Soho shops do three for ?50 and you can take them back for half-price exchange too.

The weak dollar may be skew the numbers slightly, but even with a strong dollar we still have to pay more in the UK. This is one of the reasons people turn to piracy.
