stick to the licensed sex shops - e.g. 'harmony' (walkers court, charing cross rd), 'the soho original bookshop' (walkers court, brewer street) 'pirate' (brewer street) 'winart' (charing cross rd) 'british sex' (walkers court). i'd recommend you avoid anything which stocks non r18 material - i.e. pirate gear! they are as likely to rip you off as not!

'the soho original bookshop' has the best selection of british material and there's is a sale of some old stock, at the moment (the new branch on brewer st is less cramped). DO NOT pay above ?20 for anything. as all the shops are so close together, pop into all of them before purchasing anything. you may well end up saving a few bob here and there.

of course, you may want stuff that only unlicensed premises can provide but be warned - once you hand your money over that's it! i don't think any of them, any longer, give you the chance to see what it is your buying, on the basis that a tv for displaying material requires an entertainment license - complete bullshit, probably.

especially avoid anything where the guy says something along the lines of "i have just what you're looking for but i need to pop round the back, where we keep the stuff away from the fuzz".

this is just a ruse for writing whatever title you requested onto the label of some old rubbish, which they then re-emerge with, clasped in their greasy paws!

have fun.

I would heartily endorse what woodgnome said, having been
ripped off in the manner described - and also been a satisfied
customer at many of the stores listed above.

I would also OK SuperMags(Brewer St.). Most of the stores on Brewer St. seem to be quite consistent on pricing:

1 Tape/DVD ?20
2 Tape/DVD ?35
3 Tape/DVD ?50

Good news if you are planning to buy in bulk.

The Private Shop(Brewer St.) is part of the David Sullivan
Empire. It can be more expensive for videos, but usually has
some good deals on magazines.

The following URL shows many of the shopfronts of the places
that have been talked about:
