your isp may not permit you to download binaries (usenet term for images) from this group.

If you want to tell us exactly what the problem is
we can try to help:)
Even better a post to the newsgroup itself might reap rewards.

I'd imagine you get a load of jumbled stuff, with some apparent links inside it. Apparently it's something to do with 'combining and decoding', which is possible by clicking the right mouse button. Personally, I've tried that but my computer doesn't want to know about saving it. I'd love someone to give a link to a comprehensive explanation cos it's the only thing that puts me off newsgroups (apart from all the spam)

The problem your having is that you attempting to use what is primary a mail client to access the newsgroups. Even though it is possible with OE, you will have to combine and decode binaries as they are downloaded as ASCII and need to be converted to Binary.
Usenet is hard enough to understand without the program you use making it harder. I would suggest using a dedicated usenet program such as Forte Agent. Even though it will work out of the box, setting it up as you like it will take a short while, but well worth it in the end. I use it day in day out, and leech approx 3GB of stuff off usenet a day.

Since switching to broadband and really hitting the limits of what OE can do quickly and efficiently I've switched to Xnews for binary downloading.
http://xnews.3dnews.net/
Pretty easy to setup and it handles combining/decoding multipart posts with ease.
