Message for Phil McC re AVN

Post by David Spenser »

Hi Phil,
Sorry, been off for a few days and missed your posted reply to our AVN chat last week.

Yes, it was cold in the awards, but I'd suited up so I appreciated it! Besides, it made all those nips stand out more. Didn't Gloria Leonard go on?!

On the subject of value for money for the exhibitors, talking to Jeff at Sin City, apparently they did $250,000 worth of trade at the AVN Expo last year, so it's well worth their being there. For companies like that, it's not so much on the floor retail trade as a chance to meet new distributors and so on.

On that subject, I called Jay at Your Choice last week and gave him at least three new numbers for companies at the Expo who had no Euro/UK distribution at all, which he (and hopefully they) was very happy with. In, say, five years time, maybe we can look forward to similar shows in the UK, where people like you have graduated to large scale operations and are talking telephone number deals at Erotica. With the UK market, anything's possible provided the lawmakers stay out.

I would say that erotica is not far behind and ahead in some cases. At the show last year they had a few stilt walkers fire-eaters and girls with a snake etc. They put on a very small attempt for a show. This year even less,,what show. The whole point of the awards show is to bring along the artists and producers for a glamour event, It is called AVN's black tie event. I know loads of girls who look forward to the AVN as it usually full of glamour for them well I think they were all dissapointed because I never saw the type of glamour you get at Berlin for example. I don't know if you have been to any of the other sex festivals like Barcelona, Cannes, Brussells, Berlin to judge AVN you should. Berlin blows it away big-time.
We done ok at Vegas so I can complain about the business side but when I hear big players tell me they are doing 3000 pieces of a new release I wonder how long it all can go on for,
On the other hand I have heard DVD sales through internet have shot up and that is good news for everyone as it all seemed a bit slow.
I think if the US or European guys were hit with the ?11.68 per minute BBFC fees we have it would change them overnight.
Best Regards,
Phil Mc
