Does anyone know if any shops in uk are accepting these anymore ?
Used to be some Collectors shops in Manchester that would take them in Exchange or has this all stopped now ?
Of course a lot of people have copied them on to Dvd so spose still collectable.
Or has Everyone now Dispossed of their Video Tape collections ?
Just throwing it out there , if any one does know any places.
Also are these Dvd that good, seems a lot of people have trouble with them, when they first come out everyone was raving about them but now i hear all sorts of storys about them, Jumping ,Stopping,Freezing,Certain formats not working on different types of machines etc.
Any help appreciated re above

On a more helpful note, I think you'll find your VHS collection is basically worthless. There might be a few mountain men still viewing porn on VHS I suppose. However, there are machines that will allow you to transfer your VHS tapes to DVD, however remember the resolution of the old VHS was rubbish, so transferring them wont improve the quality.
I think you have an outdated view of DVD media, as long as you stick to a name brand and look after them, you should be alright. You don't need to worry about DVD-r or DVD + r etc, what ever you are using to burn the disc will tell you what format of DVD it requires. I find that DVD-R seems to be the most popular. Of course you also have Blu Ray, but this is a whole different ball game and you need not be concerned with it at the moment

The only value in the tapes you have would be if any have content sought by a collector not readily available on DVD.
If so, assuming originals, the best place to sell would be eBay.
As Jim says reputable mainstream brand blank DVD should be reliable for years to come, I have yet to find a DVD that will no longer play. I started with DVD-R so have mainly stuck to it but have had no issues with the DVD+R I have recorded.
In the early days I received a few DVD+R that would not play but think that was down to the recording method / equipment than the actual DVD.
Now most machines play both formats even if they only record on one.
According to some burnt DVD-R and DVD+R will last longer than commercial DVD's.
The main point is to keep DVD's in cases / sleeves and in the dark. Also keep the bottom surface clean of finger prints etc and free of scratches.
Scratches can be removed with patience and Brasso working from the centre of the disc out so at right angles to the rotation to the point a good PC drive will read the disc eventually then you can make a new copy.
If a DVD fails all the content is lost. The only chance of recovery would be if a PC drive can eventually read the disc slower than realtime so you can burn a new copy.
One advantage of tape was after a crease or even if a section totally chewed the remainder would still play.
Also DVD resolution is better than VHS as well as camera equipment vastly improved and costs significantly lower so VHS picture very noticeably poorer.

"Scratches can be removed with patience and Brasso....."
I've tried using toothpaste as this has a very mild abrasive action.

Jim,
Indeed any mild abrasive that can be washed off will work.
I went for Brasso after remembering it was used at work to remove scratches from Perspex.
Also essential to work on a smooth flat surface, don't try just holding disc in hands.

All these handy hints remind me of the old Childrens TV show, "How". Here's a clip showing you how to get a ship in a bottle!
I'm sure if DVD's had been invented then, the team at "How" would have known how to fix them!

Ah... "How".
I still have a copy of the famous "banned" episode, where Fred Dinenage and
Marian Davies showed all us little 'uns 'HOW.... to find the clitoris'.
