Nice thread started mods !thumbsup!

Reading that article you can see Gail Dines was the first to get in their with a left hook and I respect her divine right to dislike porn as I do any one elses

I note with interest her comment about girls leaving the business with hardly the shirts on their back.

Thats because the reality of shooting porn is dependent on how much work any girl actually gets versus how much she actually puts away. Some women are very high maintenance and others might just "party" their money away. So, no straight forward answer can be provided without dealing with a specific case.

Furthermore, I recall Ms Dines snide commenst of Hugh Hefner "a man who has built an empire on the exploitation of women", without considering the fact that Hugh Hefner remunerates his ladies well for divesting themselves of their under garments.

Even at its most basic rate of ?60 an hour that fee couldbe considered a professional rate compared to what some people get paid in the real world

As for "porn has hijacked our sexuality", maybe Ms Dines should look towards the media that has hijacked porn with its constant and provocative use of visual imagery. Not that I'm complaining because I htink some music videos are more sexier than porn.

Annas right. Porn is a soft target but why should it be solely accountable?

Doing away with porn is not going to make it go away? The thing these days is that porn is no longer in the hands of this patriarchal dominated corporations as she would have us believe but in the hands of the common people now.

Take a look around and the reason for the saturation of porn on the internet is not down to porn companies but regular people making their own movies and putting them out for free and social networking.

Thats why porn is now becoming acceptable and cool because everyone is at it now !happy!

The comments at the end are the best bit . . .

I am not against porn per se but it needs to be sidelined and carefully controlled'

'Because this industry is probably the biggest threat to the mental health of society

Sex is about the most intimate thing we have and because of that it is vital it is not hijacked by this vile industry'

My two bits the problem which no one ever seems to mention is self imposwed manolgamy. I am not trying to start a swingers party but by our very nature it is not normal for us to go through life with one sexual partner we have forced this evolution upon ourselves and porn if anything is a way of getting around this problem. If you think back to amazingly intelligent races like the Greeks who you could say wrote some of the greatest theatre/poetry of all time; developed science; maths; a structure of government we still follow today and indulgend in open homosexuality and were deeply comofrtable and open in their sexual exploites.

She started off trying to be imaprtial but her real views soon became apparent.
The 'mental health' argument is absurd; on the contrary, porn's probably a useful
safety-valve for male sexual aggression.

Like most other anti-porners, her real issue seems to be with male sexuality; and
you can't change that without changing the entire species. IOW: get over it.
If you start to monkey with biology by subverting basic drives like sex, you end
up with Catholics, Communists or Muslims : -)

JJ wrote:'... you end up with Catholics, Communists or Muslims...'

In the interests of fairness, I think you'll find there's a lot of Protestants, Hindus, Fascists, Baptists, Methodists, atheists, Anglicans, Mormons, I could go on, who could be included as well.

Bravo Masie, well said!
A few years ago when suffered from depression, I had counselling and my counsellor told me the very same thing, that monogamy is not natural for the human race. As you said, and I agree, porn is a way of looking outside of that monogamy. Why knock the people who produce the content that others enjoy? Nobody in the UK is forced into the industry, and as far as I know, and some women make a reasonable living from it.

I feel confident enough in my atheism not to need the security blanket of a capital letter.
