I have noticed on the board that sometimes people leave web site addresses where you can copy and paste them on to your address bar and then view the site.

This is the question after viewing the site, which is the best way to delete the site from your address bar. I have tried deleting them but don't seem to be able to get rid of them..any idea's.

ie5: internet options, content tab, click 'autocomplete...', if you take off 'use autocomplete for web addresses' etc check marks that should stop you saving the URLS etc. Also if you search the registry for the items that keep cropping up in the address bar then that should delete those
After making a backup of the reg and using regedit(start menu/run regedit) of course.

Or even easier (For ie5)

Tools---> Internet Options ---> Delete Files (Tick delete all offline content)

plus

Tools---> Internet Options ----> Clear History

Et Voila, Gone

Thanks joe and jay, I have gone through the instructions as you have wrote the only problem with that is that it will delete all the web sites in my drop down address bar. Is there a way that you can delete certain web sites or can this not be done..thanks.

You can selectively delete if you search the registry with something like Norton Systemworks or McaFee Nuts&Bolts. You would need to search for the URL that you wish to delete and then delete that key value. Only do this if you feel confident in 'fiddling with the registry'.

You can do it yourself by doing the following -

Click on "start" button, select "run". Type in "regedit" & click "OK".
The URL's on your dropdown list are located at -

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

In the right hand window, simply delete any of the URL's you want rid of.

Don't delete any other stuff, as this can seriously screw up your machine.

Use a program called 'evidence eliminator'.

Just because you deleted it does not mean that it is deleted. To delete something you have to overwrite the cluster that it was stored on or 'scrub' your HD.

Evidence eliminator scrubs your HD so well that not even the FBI would be able to reconstruct what was on your HD proir to scrubing.

Usually given away free on magazine discs - look out for it.

After you get everything cleaned up the way you want, you can avoid future recurrence by clicking Ctrl+O (Same as clicking File, then Open) and pasting the url into the box that opens. Sites accessed that way will not be added to your dropdown address bar list. But it will still be added to your history.
