Your Choice

I've seen a fair amount of discussion in this forum re the standard of service provided by YC, so I though I may as well add my twopenneth.

I ordered two tapes on Tuesday 5 February and the fiirst arrived on Saturday 9 February.

Four days, pretty good, you might think, but bear in mind.that I sent my order BY POST to Amsterdam and posted it at 7:00 pm!!!

Bloody amazing.

I'm a bit puzzled, though:

If YC is a legit operation, not pirate, why don't we get proper library boxes with printed covers etc?

And why is the picture quality often a bit rough, suggesting something other than a first generation copy?

I have no idea about the picture quality, but I would have thought that box covers are not shipped in order to expediate passage through customs.

I find Your Choice to be reliable; usually rather slow (which I acknowledge goes totally against your experience) and limited in what they offer, but trustworthy.

I've had the occasional quality problem with YC (bad tracking usually), but since they replace without demur and credit for return postage..........the overall standard now is very much higher than when I first used them a decade ago.
The point has been made previously that they are largely dependent on the quality/honesty of the agents they use....whether this is true, or indeed has any bearing, I don't know.

Customs are irrelevant. YC tapes are duped and sent in good ole Britain. The quality depends on which agent runs off your copy. The reason for no boxes/artwork is cos the agents are duping your tape from a sub-master. I recently had to return a faulty tape to Amsterdam and the cheeky buggers argued about refunding my postage. Having said that, the telephone staff are usually very helpfull and understand that some of their agents provide shit tapes.

I have always found them to be excellent in terms of service, though occasional quality issues were apparent. Recently I had one tape that was totally unacceptable, returned it and they offered me a replacement plus a credit note. Replacement was also sub-par, so they will be remastering and sending a new copy at their expense in due course. Other movies in that order came on considerably better quality cassettes, so it's clear some agents are skimping on the quality, and others are doing a proper job.

I do have issues with them in terms of price, the duping issue, and also not getting up to date, but as far as service goes, they are fast, efficient and I recommend them as long as you remember the drawbacks. I do wish they would stop it with this "agent distribution" carry-on and ship all tapes together - you really should at least get the original factory-made products at the price they charge.

I think they are very cautious on the distribution side. This probably stems from the trouble they had with the police a few years ago which resulted in several of their agents getting arrested (one of them apparently got 18 month in jail).

Picture quality has improved a bit recently but still room for improvement. Cant fault them on service though. But they are rather expensive.

Not for doubles........at 6 @ ?100, that's ?8-ish per title (1st, poss 2nd-gen copy).
For singles, tho', it might be better to order the originals...
...A1 quality, original artwork etc for ca. ?20, as against one YC ordered at ?25-ish.
