What would make you buy a dvd

Following on from the young harlots highland fling/samantha bentley discussion in which it's becoming obvious that people who wouldn't ordinarily buy a dvd are going to in this case. What would make you buy a dvd is it purely down to the girls, what they do in the film etc or would you be more likely to buy a new dvd if the shops put on special offers of older stock alongside them or what about if you got say 24 hours free access to the companies website if you purchased a dvd? If producers etc believe that everyone is downloading illegally anyway then the potential reductions involved in the latter two are meaningless anyway as they say they've already lost that income.

The abolition of the BBFC or whatever the censors call themselves these days, and a major reduction in the price charged by porn shops, would do for a start.

Very true...more people sell their DVD's illegally than legally hence the fall in R18 sales, both sides cause a knock on effect because of it.

Good question! In relation to Highland Fling - the trailer on the Harmony website is very good and it's obvious everyone's thoroughly into it, as it were! Jess West did a very good scene in that Thatcher spoof for TelevisionX so I'm looking forward to seeing that scene, Franki I think is tremendous and love the look of Samantha Bentley - plus the other women in it look pretty good, too!
I don't buy dvds too often - a few of the recent Tanya Hyde ones. I know 20 - 25 quid seems fairly pricey, but some of those scenes are so well shot they stand up to repeated viewings, so you know...

Yeah, the idea of a link to some website access isn't a bad one.
Possibly unrelated, but those pay per view bonus scenes that were on the Harmony discs a few years back remain unwatched.

It's a tricky one for producers I should imagine, cos there's so much porn out there, but in the case of Highland Fling there's at least 3 gorgeous British lasses in there who I haven't seen too much of.

The director's pretty important cos you have an idea of what you're getting - Gazzman, Tanya Hyde, Christophe Clark, who I think can be pretty funny too and gets the most out of the lasses.

Not really bothered about R18 restrictions. I was used to knocking one out over Eurotrash and Men Only, so some of the films I've got now are hot enough in comparison!

There are a number of factors why people dont make DVDs to bring to market anymore. The cost of the BBFC classification is the main one but there needs to be a shake up with the shops who have their own set of problems as well.

The shops were killing any chance of making good unit sales by offering exchanges and paying low unit rates then to add insult to injury wanted 3 months credit to pay on sales which went up to 6 months which was ridiculous as we had to pay VAT in advance of returns...That whole business of doing it legitimately was just not worth it and if you was lucky you broke even.

Thankfully we never ran into debt we couldnt get out of but nor did we really profit which was a pointless exercise in the short term. Profit allow you to keep producing and sales from DVDs were just proving to be difficult

The quality of girls and the director has always been a determining factor of a products success but i doubt the unit sales are as good as they used to be.

DVDs are just a pass to piracy as people rip them and share them for points and kudos with others doing the same and no doubt just because everyone is heralding the release of this new title I bet loads of you out there are waiting to download it for free...Lets not kid ourselves here

Having said all I have, I think Alex L from R18DVD shop will be a better authority on this subject than I am these days

Cheers for the info! I was going to wait til it's available on blissbox rather than get it from the shop. I don't like the bloke who works in the Private shop in town. He's always trying to make you buy more stuff, is pretty unpleasant and he makes out he's doing you a favour. The shop's never busy.
DVD probably is old hat now - and sounds like a hassle for the film-makers by what you're saying, but I've got a croaky old pc, so if I do download I might loss it should the computer give up the ghost. I wouldn't know how to rip the scenes to stick on xhamster or whatever, but obviously it's something I'm aware of and have got me kicks from watching plenty scenes that I'd be hard pushed to get on disc these days.

I know what you mean about ripping etc i once posted on another forum that i'd just bought a certain dvd, next minute half a dozen pm's to say post it etc. Which, to be honest, annoys me as if i've just spent probably around ?12 why should i be giving it away to the rest of the world - go and buy your own, then they might make a second instalment etc. I've said it before but i don't see how the customer is better off exchanging, the two shops i use charge ?10 to exchange so let's presume you've bought 7 or 8 for ?100 in the first place which is the quick way to get the price down, then say you take two back and exchange them for twenty quid - you've now spent ?120 quid and only got 7 or 8 dvd's. Are they assuming customers make their own copies before exchanging?

As for the bbfc there are certain things like choking etc which i would just fast forward through anyway so that doesn't bother me.

Having sold VHS first and then DVDs on-line for the last 12 years, the same trend followed all the way through, customers either wanted a high end production big sets beautiful girls, big named stars or they wanted cheap as chips compilations. As much porn as you can get for your pound.

Our current top 10 is the perfect example of this:

1) 6pk Pornochic Collection Great Value Compilation
2) Katwoman XXX British Blockbuster with big name stars
3) Avengers XXX Parody American Blockbuster with big name stars
4) 20hr Anal Lust 2 Good value compilation
5) 20hr Huge Tits 2 Good value compilation
6) Star Wars XXX Parody American Blockbuster with big name stars
7) Top Gun Parody American Blockbuster with big name stars
8) Mothers and Daughters (3 Disc Set) American Blockbuster with big name stars
9) Shes So Cute Great title great cover
10) Nurses American Blockbuster with big name stars

Even the compilations in this top 10 are from big studios and are all top quality. It appears customers always have and so far are continuing to spend their hard earned cash on a bit of quality.

So producers make the best porn you can, with the highest production values, then a year later chop it all up and put it in a compilation to maximize your return.

I've not been in a 'private shop' since hardcore was first legalised on video. Search online for licensed shops and i'm sure you'll find a better place to shop. I don't know whether i'm allowed to mention stores by name on here or not.
