There is a difference between the speed by which hospital will promise you the results, and when they actually get them.

Most NHS hospitals have a one week turnround but will say 2, or even longer, because that way they keep expectations low. But if you phone for the results after a week, and they are in, you can collect them.

Terence Higgins Trusts also do testing (not all, but in Manchester I'm sure they would), and they will tend to promise a turnround more true to teh real one.

3-4 days is blistering fast outside the private sector. A week is typical, with occaisional hiccups.

My NHS local in Durham always takes a week after you had the test done.

I think once over the last 3 years have they missed that time frame and it took a week and a half, one of the reasons I overlap my tests and get them done before they have actually ran out, it also strikes me how different the NHS tests look and cost up and down the country. I know some are free, mine was until I was there every 3 weeks and now I pay ?15 for mine. I know someone who pays ?30 and one girl even pays ?100. It's the same service up and down the country so I have never understood that bit.
