pornstars treating fans as dumb on social media

So, forgive me folks, but why do pornstars posting on social media sites treat their fans/followers as idiots? why can't pornstars simply accept that their fans are adults (predominantly) and treat them as such??

why am I saying this? because most pornstars are not single, they're either in a long term relationship with someone within the industry, or they've just started seeing someone in the wider celeb-based industry (i.e. a footballer or "reality" TV star)

you have girls who post pics on Twitter or Instagram which include their engagement or wedding rings in "candid" shots in a bar or hotel room, but then they pose for a pic with a fan and have removed their rings to support the image that they want to convey of being a single girl, so everyone can fantasise about being with that person... case in point, people like Katie K and Cate Harrington

yes I understand that the "works image is meant to be separate from real life, but when a girl keeps posting pics of themselves on a night out and then post a pic the following morning with the same guy she's been seeing for a few months, yet keeps making comments about how she is desperate to find a boyfriend, it's seen (in my opinion) as treating your fans like idiots, which we're not...

yeah so you don't want to say who you're with, but you don't ever need to, all you need to say is "going out shopping with my boyfriend today, will be on cam later, have a good day folks!" and fans won't care that you're not single, it's "real life" but when they say "spent the day fucking a hot guy I met last night", and then post a pic a day later with wedding rings on, it shows that the previous tweet was either a lie, or just says "I'm married, but I don't want to admit that so I'll pretend I'm still single for my fans"

I just don't get the point.... we're not likely to stop following you just because you're with someone, we most likely don't care! we still want to see your work, but your private life is your business, I just don't see why people pretend it doesn't exist just to their fans

I do see your point totally.

Then again Rex, people like yourself are more clued up to the ndustry and many of those who believe those posts dont care and probably go for the fantasy image the model is trying to maintain

That said I remember being chastised at a producers meeting by a fellow producer for shattering the fantasy with all the realty podcasts, behind the scenes and interviews that people like myself do.

I also remember a similar thing was said about what I do .

In fact I'm blamed for a lot of things wrong with UK porn !laugh! I still dont know what it is I'm charged with

I'm curious why you tar all pornstars using social media with the same brush.

Of all the pornstars I follow on social media, I can't say one of them thinks their fans are idiots.

Probably because you fill a niche and are successful with it OEJ.
Personally I like the ordinary girl look and some you have filmed are quite literally stunning. Not those who have got too big for their boots now.

my point is, that many (not necessarily all) but the majority of pornstars are using Twitter as an extension of their "character", take Katie K for example - her posts were always "in character" of the pornstar, never really about the person

she portrayed herself as single whenever she would tweet, yet every single candid shot of her (and some professional) include her engagement ring.... so why go to the bother of deceiving your fanbase, the majority of which are loyal to the person not the character, and come out with nonsense about "I spent last night with a hot boy I just met" or "I'm going out with my friends tonight, I may pull a guy for some fun!" if you're clearly engaged/married?

likewise, girls like Elicia Solis or Brooklyn Blue keep posting comments about how they're single one minute, then posting pics of them and the same guy that they have been on holidays with for the past 2 years...? it seems like pornstars have a on-screen personality which extends across to Twitter, and they are trying to distance their real live from that character, whilst maintaining contact with their fanbase

in my view, this doesn't work - if you use Twitter/Instagram/Facebook all day every day, updating about your activities, then at some point your "real life" is bound to show through your comments, but if you try to distance the two, that's when the lies about your character/persona show through...

Katie K has been off for a long time, either to get married and have a break from the industry or to have a baby.... she kept posting comments up to a month before she "disappeared" about how she was going to use Twitter every day to keep up with her fans, then literally overnight disappeared! why? because real life caught up with her, and she clearly couldn't maintain her character because of other stuff going on - so why not simply tell fans the truth?

do pornstars really think we believe their names are "Brooklyn Blue", "Megan Coxxx" or "Sapphire"??? we know these are screen names, and we know they are playing a character, but why not use social media to let fans see the "real" life of the person/actress and not the character?

Because the character is exactly that - some have have a life and they keep thier own life seperate from the manufactured image.

always going to be the case and they may just not like to mix it up

I thought she 'disappeared' because she wasn't well.

that's true, that's what she stated (publicly) but considering her recent posts on Twitter were basically about enjoying life and sex, it's not like she's been using it as a communication tool with her fans to say "Hey, for everyone who was worried/concerned, I'm ok now and have recovered" or "I'm still not 100%" etc....

if she's still ill, then I'm sorry for her and hope she recovers, but if she's just decided to use that as cover for a change of career due to pregnancy/marriage then I think it shows exactly how "humble" the person behind the persona really is

This is why I have different social network profiles for different aspects of my business and never mix them.
