Evidence-eliminator

Just been at another site, hosted by a Brit Girl and was browsing
when a popup box very similar to a site not found box appeared.
This pop-up was headed YOU HAVE A BIG PROBLEM, and proceeded to inform me of my ISP and account details, it said that as I had visited site containing adult orintainted material & hard porn
i was under investigation. I know I have not done anything oversteeping the mark, so i was fairly amazed & shocked.
The message prompted me to click a box for further details which I did, and bugger me if this does not lead you to
www.evidence-eliminator.com who sell software to hide your tracks.
I feel these shock tactics of promoting/selling software is bang out of order.
The annoying thing is if I visit my history to see what i have viewed today the bastard evidence eliminator thing informs me that i am still under investigation.
Beware this dodgy method of trying to frighten people into buying software they do not need or want.
I dont think looking at fully grown women naked and horny is in the Gary Glitter class yet, or is it BIG BROTHER?????

this is a way of selling this stuff that I've noticed getting bigger of late. Webmasters can proberly make loads by scaring people into buying this type of program.
As most on this forum are proberly aware I make no bones about the adverts on my site. I don't hide them with mouse overs and certainly don't (and will never) try to shit peopleup by making pages such as 'YOU HAVE BEEN CAUGHT GOING TO ADULT SITES etc...'
As long as you don't look at anything too dodgy then whats the problem?

No real problem to me after the initial shock,I have nothing to hide, but i would hate to think that people who are maybe a little more nieve than us are duped into paying ?85 for something that the neither want or need.
maybe I am over reacting but something that is sold on fear seems to be a shitty trick to me, what next placibo pills sold
to worried mothers on baby care sites?
That sucks in my book.

Have a look in the 'software' section. I'll say no more.

Other then to suggest that if you're looking at anything that would get an R18 refusal, re-format and re-install Windows every few weeks, backing up anything you need onto CD.

As far as I know, every ISP makes a record of what websites you visit, and especially the names of files you download and from what source (which is why a lot of people don't use the incredibly un-subtle Kazaa). As far as I know they can't prosecute you for it, however, something to do with the Data Protection act. If they could prosecute for using illegal software, I'd be doing life.

Evidence Eliminator does use shock tactics and simply dismisses criticism of it's product as "suggestions by men in suits who have alterior motives for not wanting you to remove evidence from your hard-drive". In reality, evidence eliminator doesn't do anything you can't do yourself if you know how, but just to twist the knife, use an illiegitimate copy of their software. They're onto a lot of passwords and keygens though, so get a patched copy of a copy with a patch included.

Have I said too much? ;)

basically, download the trial version, then search for *Evidence-eliminator crack* (minus the *'s) download the file and place in appropriate folders, then your trial version becomes the full version!!! ileagel yes, but 3 in 5 people have cracked programmes on their pc ;-)

Not a problem for me, as I really don't give a shit what people think.
BUT this sort of suss operation needs a stiff letter (NOT e-mail) of complaint to your ISP, with copies to the guilty company's chairman, the ASA, and possibly Trading Standards for good measure.
A good case can be made for viewing these tactics as intimidatory, and therefore in breach of ASA guidelines. Unfortunately, the latter can only act once a complaint has been received.
And then let's see how THEY like being intimidated.......
