just thought i'd drop a line to say how good it is to see this forum pretty much back to its old self. There were afew months when it looked like it would decend into endless spaming, trolling and flameing but must take my hat off to alec, phil and co. isp tracking that phil has introduced has done the trick!

I agree, in recent weeks it has redeemed itself from the depths of troll-dom and the vortex of seriously sad bastards with nothing to do other then have monotonous and cringe-wortherly unfunny conversations with themselves.

OI !!
I resent those remarks.
I lead a full social life down the Working Kobold's Club, my girlfriend Griselda is a promising young granite-chipper's apprentice, and I am a prominent member of the Nibelung Amateur Wagner Society.
Bloody cheek.

SPAM: to post huge amounts of material to usenet, or to post one article to huge numbers of inappropriate groups. By extension, the use of fraudulent posts (as in "I found an interesting site recently....") to plug one's own wares. [Ref: Monty Python's Spam sketch/song].
TROLL: prank newsgroup posting designed to produce an irate response, and by extension the person making such a post. Since mine are never malicious, and aim rather to put a smile on people's faces, i suppose I'm a sort of bastard troll (?). And I don't try to hide my addy (which is pointless anyway, where moderators are concerned).
FLAMING is the posting of abusive messages/e-mails: I suppose constructively-abusive messages are a specialised subset of these. Knee-jerk ones are at least understandable. Marcus has this down to a fine art.
LURKING is recommended at first, but like all good things should not be over-indulged in. A raincoat is not necessary.
