I appreciate this has probably been discussed before, but is there any phrase that drives forumites to anger and despair. Admittedly, I'm easily annoyed, but the following can usually be depended on to piss me off:

XXX porn (something you can sit and watch with your maiden aunt without any danger of blushing, probably advertised in the Slug's papers. By the way, did anyone see him being interviewed on The Premiership last night--- he looked like Gollum!).

Anyone with any other contributions? While not an oxymoron, I feel inclined to add that awful designation "director of human resources"---who wants to be described as a human resource? What's wrong with being a personnel manager????

er, "american culture" an oxymoronism? allow me to start the case for the defence: miles davis, george gershwin, charlie parker, john coltrane, francis ford coppola, bob dylan, john huston, samuel barber, walt whitman, stephen sondheim, james brown, aretha franklin, henry miller, noam chomsky, frasier, elvis presley, seinfeld, orson welles, marvin gaye, mark twain, edgar allan poe, ernest hemingway, andy warhol, stanley kubrick, jazz, rap, blues, musicals, disco, isadora duncan, motown, gospel, rock'n'roll, psychedelia, folk rock, techno, garage, looney tunes, buffy the vampire slayer, singing in the rain, taxi driver, high noon, the apartment, the wizard of oz, it's a wonderful life, groundhog day, some like it hot, orson welles, duck soup, laurel and hardy, howard hawks, not to mention countless, lavishly appointed, world class cultural institutions: museums, orchestras, theatre groups, dance groups both modern and classical... i could go on but i've got to wash my jeans!

For countries that are relatively young like the US & Australia the word culture is a difficult one to compare with say Europe,Africa or Asia which have traditions dating back thousands of years

Possibly why the term American "Popular" Culture is used
