Thought I might have had some dialers in my pc so downloaded spybot, search and destroy. It certainly cleared out a load of junk I never knew I had, but it seems to have planted other stuff of it's own! Anyone know anything I can download off the 'net to clear it out?

Ad Aware might do it. Buttsie is the expert but I think he might have gone to bed after a hard day lounging around in his huge garden drinking and getting sunburned.

I think the url is Its free btw.

But I use Spybot too which detects Adaware and says you can safely ignore stuff found by adaware which are just disabled bots found by Spybot. Spybot doesnt delete the things it finds it just isolates them so they will still be there but rendered useless.

Can you explain what you think Spybot has planted in your system and how you came to that conclusion? I am interested because I use Spybot too.

Hi magoo, since I downloaded spybot, I'm getting spam mail from loads of sources. I could put up with it before because it was only the odd mail, but now it's 15-20 a day. Only happened since I got spybot.

I noticed I started getting spam also. I at first thought it to be due to a certain troll of this parish. Interesting idea.....Is Spybot a blatant form of Spyware? And if it is how the fuck can we uninstall the fucker?

Eric is your spam mainly ads for credit cards from email addys like yours ie just a few different characters in the addy? Oh and of course the usual anti spam software ads.

used to be along the lines of "do you want a bigger knob?", but now mainly ads for porn sites. It's like a magnet inside the pc for assorted crap.
I can't even block the senders name because it changes every mailing.

There was thread on one of the newsgroups recently. It seemed to be implying that you can't trust any software. As usual, it ended in a flame war.
What , me paranoid? Nonsense, it's just everyone having a go at me.

Expert...hardly

I'll think you will find that if you run ad-aware and delete all the nasties
Spybot probably won't run properly or not at all

I've been using spybot for 3 months and using 2 email addies

One addy(not the one I downloaded Spybot from) which I've just cancelled was getting 200 spams a day
My other addy gets maybe 1 or 2 a week
I'm not convinced yet that spybot is the cause of all the spam

The only way to be really free of adware/spyware is to download to you're harddrive then save straight to a CD.Then wipe you're system

The other point I would make is that anywhere you signup for something
you can guarantee that sooner or later you're email addy will end up being sold.It happened at yahoo, msn, smartgroups etc

cheers
