S56 posted a message he thought this dire show was great viewing. Am I alone thinking how shite it was? ITV must have been short of decent writers to dream up this bollocks. I saw a spin-off film of it awhile back and it really was THAT bad. Blakey's 'Hitler' character was crap, Reg and Stan honestly believed they were 'ladies men' who could 'pull the birds'. My favourite in it was Arthur who always looked miserable.........probably from living with TV's first dysfunctional family!!
While were on the subject, remember 'Love Thy Neighbour'? How that passed for 'essential viewing' I will NEVER know!! The NF must have relished this crap, all harmony living with our ethnic neighbours went back 20 years on the back of this show. The black neighbour was Patrick Trueman (Eastenders) who is a recognised thespian who must have been desperate to portray a racially bullied neighbour for 'our humour'

didnt like love thy neighbour at all,preferred the doctor series,goodies,python,cuckoo waltz,get some in.

They show 'Dr in the House' on Granada+ and its VERY funny to see a young Martin Shaw trying to act as a Welshman. Martin 'acted' his way to The Professionals where he acts 'hard' with a silly perm. LOL

Yeah, its funny how some shows you used to piss your pants laughing at are embarrassing now ( Some Mothers Do ?ve Em ) but I still think you would miss them if they all disappeared. The old Carry On movies are now so quaint they're funny again - but not as the makers originally intended. There's worse things to put up with.

May be the type of comedy has changed. What we found funny in the 60's & 70's we proberly don't find funny today. Til Death Do Part would not go down so well today. Some Mother's Do Have Them still relied on slap stick comedy something which seems to have died the death today.
Fawlty Towers built up the comedy along a funny story line.
Todays comedy seems to have alot visual jokes & "one liners"

Quite the most embarrassing piece of crap produced in the 1970s (and that's saying something!). Even at the time, it was painfully racist. Hard to believe that the ultra-smart William G Stewart produced this pish.
Bill Bryson's Notes From A Small island details his arrival on these shores in the early 1970s, and his first few hours in a boarding house in Dover watching what was obviously this show. The chapter (and the book) is a piece of comic genius, unlike the programme he had to sit through.
