A good mate who posts here has a reliable contact for the kind of films he and I love, but he had a video intercepted by 'our boys' and sent a letter. I have had several packages from the US that have been opened, and fortunately, they didn't contain porn, but its a worrying aspect that seemingly EVERY parcel/package is now subject to being opened. I 'advised' my mate that he hold onto his cash for the time being. Any lads out there had any packages intercepted or did my mate just get unlucky?
I did see a TV programme 2 weeks ago with every package destined for the US goes through an X-Ray machine, and although they are looking for drugs and weapons, they were getting videos coming through as well.
How do good reliable US companies such as Blue Vanities and Excalibur get around this?

ive had dvds and videos sent from blue vanities(videos) and excalibur (dvds) with no problem.
excalibur always put educational material on the customs ticket.

It's definitely not every package that's opened. As someone who receives two or three orders from the US each month I tend not to have any problems.

DVD's pass through without any bother and I've never encountered any packages that have been opened.

Did he only order one tape or was it part of a larger package ? A single video always gets through OK. In fact the only times I've ever had anything opened is if the package is quite big - say 4 or 5 tapes - and even then the contents have never been witheld.

I have ordered from excalibur and jaded a few times and they have never been opened as I suspect HM C&E know those companies dont sell anything illegal.

I DID once have a video opened by customs from a much smaller USA site and I reckon the reason was probably the childish handwriting on the address label which drew attention from HM C&E. But they watched the first 20mins then sent it on to me with the usual "Opened & Inspected" sticker on it.

As for the xray machines you mention I think thats just for stuff going INTO the USA rather than outbound but our Customs may be doing the same bearing in mind the current political climate. I wouldnt worry. They wont steal anything that conforms to R18 guidelines which is just about everything really. Unless your into donkey fisting or something:-)
