I've seen U2 3 times and you can count on them to pull out a brilliant cover version of something that takes their fancy on the night. S56 is correct, Brand New Cadillac is great, but Clash's best cover was Police and Thieves that was their own interpretation of this classic instead of a note-for-note version which are always boring IMO. Another of there's is Pressure Drop.

Love the Roxy Music cover, but wasn't the original by Lennon?

As far as covers go, Don't You Forget About Me by Sprung Monkey, rules.

Hendrix's reworking of 'All Along The Watchtower' must take some beating!

But Paul Young belongs in hell for his take on Love Will Tear Us Apart. As do Atomic Kitten, Gates and Young, Steps, Westlife, and various other pre-teen faves for their "interpretations" of classics.

If you're going to cover a classic, at least try to make it different from the original. All Along The Watchtower, Let's Spend The Night Together, Jealous Guy, Twist And Shout, and a few tracks from Annie Lennox's Medusa album are among the better covers, imho.

Accentuating the positive, a word in praise of the excellent covers of The Beatles' Because and Tears For Fears' Mad World at the end of American Beauty and Donnie Darko respectively.
