One of Wales most famous sons Leighton Rees has died aged 63. The first ever Embassy World Professional Darts Champion. Distinguished by his "cobra" throwing technique. Regarded as bringing televised darts to the masses, produced the first ever televised 10 dart finish. They will be drinking a few jars to Leighton in Pontypridd pubs & all over Wales in his memory.

A sad loss to all who liked their arrows in the late 70's. I will say with all these new guys around, none of them would have lived with Rees, Lowe, Wilson and of course, The Crafty Cockney - Eric Bristow, in their prime. These aforementioned players had character and charisma, sadly lacking in the big money game these days.
On the subject of darts, is there a more fanatical commentator than Sid Waddell ? I know Murray Walker and Jonathan Pierce are mental when they get going, but 'wor' Sid is a maniac!!

Ace, Ace, what are you doing? If ever a post deserved to languish into obscurity with a big fat zero next to it's name, surely it was this one.

Please don't do that any more. If you feel the urge just get out your cock and a porn film and do your duty.

Sid Waddell, he doesn't just mix his metaphors, he dices them into cubes and drops them in a blender.

My personal favourite: "Steve Beaton, he's not Adonis, he's THE donis"

See more of Waddell's wisdom here

I remember a Sid classic with Beaton playing, the crowd were transfixed in this ordinary match and Wor Sid said, 'If Elvis walked in now and ordered a pie and a pint, nobody would notice because of the magnitude of this match' (it was a 2nd round match incidently) but the man LOVES his sport, and if ponces like Fergie and Murray Walker get OBE's for their services to sport, I think Wor Sid deserves a CBE at least!!

Leighton was a great!

Just a pity Chris Mason will not be remebered in the same light!
