As much as I love the Who ( I saw them at the Valley in 1974 was in Guinness Book of thingys for the loudest concert ever ). The Stones cannot be beaten by anyone in my book. I've seen them 5 times and going again to MEN in Sept and they are simply the best.
Heres one to through in to the melting pot here aswell. The Who have lost their drmmer and bass player. Another supergroup have only the drummer and bass player left - Beatles. Wonder if they could form and what muzak might come out of it ?

At the height of their powers, it's quits. Yet I will opt for The Who, on the purely subjective grounds that they speak to me more. Perhaps it's because The Who embraced englishness, while the Stones always seemed to desire, and ultimately became, american. The Beatles piss on them both, of course.

not much of a comparison really. Bit like asking who's better, Man U or Southampton?

Of course its the Stones.

Macca, Starr and Harrison played in the studio a few times before the release of Free As A Bird. This was a rough demo by Lennon in 1974-ish and Yoko gave permission for the remaing 3 to use. They made a piss poor job of it with George Martin at the controls. Lennon turned in his grave, Im sure. The video was dire.
A famous Joe Strummer quote from London Calling.......

'Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust'

Never a more apt lyric

Thank god that concept of 'The Super Group' has died

Who could forget the great music from Asia & Powerstation

Shithouse music from Big name performers who were past their best

Always smacked of record Companies trying to manufacture a winning popular image but worrying little about the music

Like certain bands that released trendy clothing for sale to the public before they had even written or performed a song

cheers
