Comic strip presents...

I used to love these silly productions. They had all the -at the time- up and coming comedy stars in them, such as Rik Mayel, Ade Edmondson, Jenifer Saunders, Alexie Sayle, Robbie Coltrane, Peter Richardson etc.
Also they used to have old has-beens in like Nicholas Parsons and Peter Cook. My fav's were 'Bad News Tour' about the heavy metal bands, and 'Mr Jolly lives next door' where Nicholas Parsons was due to open an off licence. Fucking marvellous.

I agree Ronbo. I have most of them on tape. Lovingly transferred from betamax prior to my beta machine dying ten years ago.
Eddie Monsoon A Life.......Remember that one.

I could never understand why they released 'Supergrass' in the cinema when they had so many better one's. By the way do you know 'Gregory:Diary of a Nutcase'? It's the silence of the lambs spoof, cos it's one of my fav's and I'm dying to get it.

No sorry mate. If it was one of the episodes they did for BBC2 then I wont have it. I only rate the ones they did for C4.
Keith Allen got a bit pissed off with them for selling out and turning into twats. I gather he was not too keen on certain members of the team being pretentious media bum chum types.
Heres a link to a fan site I just found. I have not checked it out yet so dont blame me if its a pile of shite
Now I am off to find a pic of Eddie Monsoon to post.

Heres another
Theres loads out there. I just did a google using "eddie monsoon" as the search term and got 200 results. I reckon if I had narrowed it by adding "comic strip presents" I would have weeded out any shit relating to Ades wife Saunders stealing the name Eddie Monsoon for her pathetic show Ab Fab. The fact that Ab Fab was one of the few British comedies the yanks found funny speaks volumes and in my view casts it deep into the bin of shit TV that only yanks and wimmin find funny.

Yeah, Ab fab is total and utter pig shit. I wonder if Edmundson when pissed told Saunders her show was crap.

I agree the Comic Strip were great, but they do look dated nowadays.
Bad News on Tour is a total rip-off of Spinal Tap which was made a year earlier. Pity as the Comic Strip writers, Mayel, Edmondson, Elton, and Mayer were very clever enough to make a different script than using cast-off lines and scenarios from Spinal Tap

With Peter Richardson as Al Pacino as Arthur Scargill! They tried a similar thing when they moved to the Beeb, with GLC. Robbie Coltrane as Charles Bronson as Ken Livingstone, Dawn French as Cher as Joan Ruddock (complete with three big-haired Cher clones as daughters), Jennifer Saunders as Brigitte Neilsen as Thatcher and, most bizarre of all, Peter Richardson as Lee Van Cleef as Tony Benn. Inspired!
