Lads...........I was told that if you have no credit on yer mobile and want to send a message, you can do by logging on a site on yer PC and sending it from there. Any truth or have those wanky privates stitched the corporal up.......again?

I think Virgin.net provide this service. I've never used it myself, but I have received messages from other people. I seem to remember that your limited in the no. of characters you can use.

You used to be able to send them via ICQ, probably still can.

Lads, thanks a lot. Not just for me, but those snot-nosed privates who would have gone through Hell (again) if it was a send up!!
My personal favourite 'extra' is to make someone peel a sack of spuds, 'turn' every spud into a chateau (an 8 sided barrel shape) potato (takes about 2 hrs) then have them boiled and mashed. Its soul destroying, but I've been there myself......builds character

Go to and type in "free sms messages" and you should get a list of sites that offer this.

At the moment 99% of them you have to register - but most are free.

By the way, if you are in the army, you will get a mobile phone - as you are NOT credit checked. So even if you have CCJ's and stuff like that, it does not matter.

I think some payphones also offer sms text messaging.
