Linking BGAFD to EGAFD

Mods...Just a thought...

Is there any chance of adding an option to the jump menu on the top right of both the BG and EG sites so that we can switch to the other main forum, just as you can with the shared O/T forum?

we did experiment with this very briefly but quickly reverted back to the current format. there are any number of reasons for this but the most fundamental is that we always envisaged bgafd and egafd as two distinct sites - albeit members of the same family, each possessing their own character. the databases are entirely separate, as are the other sections reflected on both sites. the only prominent feature they have in common is the o/t forum.

there were also pragmatic considerations for this reversion: if you add the egafd forum to the bgafd drop down, it would be inconsistent not to add the bgafd forum to the egafd drop down and, having gone that far, why not the bgafd archive as well?

if the egafd forum were added to the bgafd drop down, you would have it appearing alongside the bgafd menu bar and, of course, vice versa. doubtless, this would give rise to confusion among newbies, of whom we have many each day. furthermore, if we modify the drop downs, the forum index pages would also require amending, so that they displayed links to all the available forums. as a result, the boundaries between bgafd and egafd would become increasingly blurred, in a manner liable to sow further confusion among those new to the site/s. this would create a constant flow of annoying, yet understandable, queries.

egafd and bgafd are two different sites and the current arrangement is the way of best acknowledging that fact. surely, it's not that much hassle hitting ctrl+N and typing in the egafd addy? ;-)

[handy hint: type in 'egafd' (without the quotation marks), then hold down the control key and hit the return button]

i think you'll find that control+n is creating a new browser window, which duplicates the page you're currently viewing (assuming you use ie5 or 6, like 95% of surfers). if you move your cursor down to the task bar, you should find that you have more than one instance of the browser open.

holding down control+shift+tab will select the address, so that you can type in the new address.

re. handy tips - this site maybe of some help:
