Perhaps Ace has Yahoo Messenger installed.
I used to have it and every time a new email, arrived, a little symbol would appear followed by a "ting"...not a "whoosh".
Perhaps had it been a "S'up Rudebwouy", I'd have kept it.

If you go into your control panel magoo and click on sound properties
you should have new mail notification....if it probably doesn't have a bell next to it

select it then then select what sound you wish to hear

of course I might be using a different o/s(win98 2nd edition) to yours
so you'll be up shite creek without a paddle
