Advice needed for newbie pls...

Hi guys.
I have an attractive 22yr old female friend who wants to get into the business, starting slowly, with a photoshoot or two, to be published in magazines and maybe a website or two (just solo stuff to start).

How would you suggest she starts and where can she send her pix for an initial review, etc.?

Thank you.
Nic.

The most important thing first of all is to get a few decent shots together, not your red-eyed polaroids, but proper studio shots and get confident in front of the camera with strangers. My recommendation would be get a couple of TFP (Time For Print) sessions under her belt and then hit the big bad world (myself and a number of others on here can help with TFP).

The next thing is exposure, generally the best sources of 'proper' work seem to be modelling sites, studios and agencies, a site of your own and contacts. The first two just involve a bit of leg work (well finger work now as nearly everything is on the net - check the links on here and also try here , building a straighforward promotional site is pretty simple and contacts just tend to grow once you are working.

Hope This Helps
C

Go to the links page on this site & it will give you names of agencies & studio's you can contact.

They recomend anybody just starting in the industry to go to www.modelsafe.co.uk & view their site.

I hope this helps & we can look forward to seeing some results of your friends work someday.

Wishing her good luck.

Wink Wink:
I don't want to seem ungrateful, but i just went to that link and the first thing i saw was:
"Photographer jailed for sex attacks.
A glamour photographer who raped and indecently assaulted his model clients has been jailed for seven years. "
Now, its a good job i went there and not the girl who is trying to get into the business. If she'd seen that im sure she would have thought twice about even getting to first base.

Its not that i dont understand why you put it there, i do, and im grateful, but if you have anything to do with that site, i think the opening page could be written a little more tactfully and maybe with a few success stories preceeding the horrible one which hits you when you first get there.

However, thank you for the advice - heeded.

Make sure she is 100% certain she wants to do this. I had a friend who said she was VERY keen to venture into this business. I contacted two VERY influential people in the business and I felt pretty stupid with a VERY red face when she changed her mind.

The bits in the link were put there by this site, I have nothing to do with it. If you feel it's offputting you sound contact the mods.

I was merely trying to help!

Tread very carefully when seeking advice for your 'friend', I,m sure ww was just trying to help, and the link he posted was a very useful one, and gives a lot of advice to models, both the good stuff and the reality, I would think your request would be better on the BG forum, where there are several pro photographers and video makers who may be able to help, also Nic, you strike me as a educated guy, just browsing thru the links, should give you and your friend all the contacts you need, you might want to try Cornish Cris
or Notts Models, but Ace gave you the best advice, check to see if your friend is really keen, missed appointements, and no-shows will piss a lot of people off.
If the comments on Model safe would have upset this girl, maybe she should re-think, read it again it does offer some very useful advice.

Liz
