Read a lot about Quentin's new film, 'Kill Bill' which is in 2 parts. Part 1 opens next week with pt2 out in February 2004. It sounds a bit wierd, but if Uma Thurman is in it, I will get an, ahem, advance copy.

The trailer isn't up to much, frankly. It looks likes the preferable, mature approach of Jackie Brown has been jettisoned for jokey blood-spilling. And it was supposed to be one big three hour action epic until Satan - sorry, Harvey Weinstein - jumped on the LOTR/Matrix bandwagon for the extra bucks. The early word from preview audiences has been mixed, but fingers-crossed it's a goodie.

it does sound like a retrograde step after the riches of jackie brown but like most cinephiles i'll be schlepping along to see it. early reviews have been pretty fulsome, to be fair.

Normally in this situation I'd say, Why is Quentin Tarantino?

Choose one of the following:

Ex-video store geek turned film-maker and really, really bad actor.

Sleekit rip-off merchant of crime heist thrillers and John Woo movies.

Genius.

Your choice. Discuss.

I don't think Steve would get Tarantino---there's no link with 1969 (although that doesn't usually stop him) :-)
