veteran film producer elia kazan has died today i just heard,1 of his famous films was on the waterfront.
his style was way too didactic for my tastes and for that reason i've always found even his supposed classics such as 'on the waterfront' pretty unbearable.
his wife, barbara loden, was potentially the greater talent. she only had the opportunity to direct one feature - 'wanda' - in which she also played the lead role but it was a neo neo-realist masterpiece, so to speak. it's also one of those films that may, sadly, never make it to dvd.
