Whats the programme in the task manager called ? when you have the name, do a search of your files/folders! go to start then click the search option, then paste or type the programme name in, if it finds the programme, delete it! then if you have system restore, turn it off, just in case it,s still in your registry, close the pc down, then re-start, run the search check again, if alls well turn sys restore back on...

only keep the cookies of sites you trust .... if a site won't load because you refused there cookie then it's not worth visiting them.

I run zone alarm firewall, norton anti-virus 98 an browse on mozilla firebird and adware/spyware still get through even when I'm only surfing and looking not downloading which seems to be a new developement.
Detection after the fact through programs like Adaware and to a lesser expent Spybot seem to be the only effective methods of finding and disabling adware/spyware which come with these pop-ups once lodged on your system
