Erm . . . steady on, uhm . . . good chap, erm . . . as David Cassidy said, when he was still a member of the Partridge Family, uhm . . . no, hold on

Rather a one-trick pony. And yet I see we must hold a minority view:

saw him in 'about a boy' last night and it confirmed my belief that he is one of the foremost screen actors of his generation. a bit of a throwback, admittedly, to that school of thesp's whose artistry lies in making what he does look effortless to the point of invisibility but all the more admirable for that.

dream ticket - hugh in a takashi miike flick! no audition necessary...

The trouble is he keeps falling back into the same persona. After Four Weds, he played against type in An Awfully Big Adventure, and was quite excellent---but it wasn't what "his" audience wanted to see. Hopefully, as the boyish charm gets thinner, he'll be able to stretch himself beyond the bumbling, upper class nice chap character he's been trapped in so often.
