Excuse me, am I missing something about the uproar that has started about President Bush awarding the Iraq re-building contracts only to those who helped in the first place? Rightly or wrongly, a country goes to war and removes a dictator, in the process that country incurrs millions of dollars of cost, other countries don't take any part at all but then get the arse when they aren't considered for the lucrative re-building contracts. How does that make sense? Surely Bush is right to try and get some of the costs back into only the economies that contributed in the first place by awarding contracts only to them? Am I missing something?

For mine the real reason for the invasion was to stimulate the US economy

Is he right giving it to the allied companies...its American money so why not
but then don't expect the nations who were against the war to support you militarily on the ground

Call me a cynic but until we see the weapons of mass distruction revealed I'm not buying this terrorist baloney link that rumsfeld and co are sprouting

Well said mate, I agree with the Canada issue, the others can go take a running jump.

I think Bush will have a change of heart when it comes to Canada. At the moment everyone who didn't help out is being grouped together but I reckon that once a bit of 'diplomacy' has taken place they will then be seen to have been true allies, unlike the other wingers! Bush is probably making a stand and a point now because they didn't send troops but I hope he doesn't cave in to the other countries just because of the threat of possible economic blocks. I really don't see where the other countries are coming from. How can you possibly not support something, not contribute to it, but then expect to reap the rewards from it? Its mind boggling, no wonder the world is in such a mess. If those guys were leaders in business they would last 5 minutes.

The US was a wounded bear, after 9/11;
Bush couldn't get Bin Laden, so he went for Sadaam;
The US/Brits went in without a UN mandate;
The French/Russians opposed that mandate because of the money they had tied up in Iraq;
The Americans then denied business opportunities in Iraq to the French/Russians.

I've seen more mature behaviour in primary-school playgrounds.
