pneumatic central locking

ok bit of a geeky question, but i recently found out my car's got this much to my relief as i thought the weird delay meant that the pump was dying on me.
can anyone tell me specifically what the benefits/drawbacks are to having this system are? ive been looking online and ive only really found HOW it works which is rather impressive but still not telling me what i want to know.
ive noticed a couple of things but i wont reveal them as id like to see what u lot have to say....if nething at all.
